Recently, PowerNation revealed the first build of Factory Five Racing’s “Next Generation” Mk5 Roadster. You can watch their entire video here. Because there is so much new information, I put together a video of the major updates which you should watch. However, since publishing the video, more information has been revealed leading to the official vehicle announcement which is expected later this month.
Just a reminder that this is a pre-production model, and options, pricing, and availability are subject to changes.
Mk5 Factory Hard Top & Soft Top
For the first time in the company’s 30 year history, they will now offer a hardtop option for their roadster kits. While I highlighted this in my video, more details have been revealed about the hardtop. Factory Five now states that the hardtop will be constructed of carbon fiber, and they expect it to be available in September of 2025. Pricing is still TBD at this point.
Another interesting development is the addition of a soft top option for owners as well. The soft top is slated to be available in January of 2026, also with pricing TBD.
It should be noted that both of these options have been given part numbers by FFR, which is a step in the right direction as they make their way towards production.
Mk5 Turn Signal
With all of the updates revealed in the PowerNation video, there were some updates that weren’t mentioned that were noticed by other fans and builders. One major update is the possible addition of a turn signal stalk being included in the kits. This was pointed out by Frank at I.E.427 Garage – a builder who also fabricates parts for FFR builders, including turn signals. You can see a link to his video here.
Previous generation roadsters had a dash mounted toggle switch, which many builders replaced with stalks either from Russ Thompson or I.E.427.
The FFR turn signal is very sleek looking, and looks to be made from metal. And since the signal does not appear in the Mk5 options list that was accidentally revealed by FFR around Thanksgiving and subsequently deleted, it is assumed that the turn signal stalk will be part of the complete kit.
Hood Scoop Options
The Mk5 will now be available with either a standard ABS hood scoop, or owners can upgrade to a paintable carbon fiber piece for $249.
Updated Seat Belts
For added comfort, Factory Five will be providing their owners with new options for their seat belts. In addition to the tried and true 3″ Simpson 5-point harnesses, they will now offer “more comfortable” option with a new 2″ wide 5-point harness. These look very sleek and a more modern alternative.
